Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya has reacted to the virality of images of passenger congestion at Covid-19 checkpoints at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on social media.

Minister Jyotiraditya directed the airport authorities to take steps to avoid congestion of passengers coming from abroad. The minister also directed the airport authorities to introduce a token system to indicate the time slots for Covid-19 testing.

The minister urged passengers to follow the Covid-19 protocols to maintain social distance and wear masks. Airport CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said the number of RT PCR test counters has been increased in addition to reducing passenger waiting time.

Jaipuriar said they were working with immigration officials to provide more comfort to passengers and made food counters available in the waiting area at the airport.
