Delhi: Home Guard personnel dies in ERV collision during patrolling

New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS) An on-duty Home Guard personnel died after the Emergency Response Vehicle on patrolling was hit by a heavy vehicle in Delhi’s Dwarka area, an officer said on Tuesday.


The deceased is identified as Dharampal.


According to police, in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, ASI Mahesh Kumar and Home Guard Dharampal were on patrolling in the area in an official gypsy. 


"While patrolling on Najafgarh-Bahadurgarh road, a heavy vehicle hit the ERV. Dharampal got injured. He was shifted to the RTRM hospital where the doctors declared him dead," said the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M. Harsha Vardhan.


A case under sections 279 and 304 A of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Baba Haridas Nagar police station.


"The driver of offending vehicle, Jai Lal (23), district Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh has been arrested and further investigation is being carried out," the DCP added.
