Two Durga Puja revelers run over by speeding truck in Bengal

Kolkata, Oct 24 (IANS) Two youths were run over by a speeding truck while they were pandal hopping in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district.


The accident occurred late Monday night on the National Highway 34 in Tungidighi, Karandighi.


Local police sources said that four friends, who were on a pandal hopping spree on the occasion of Maha Navami, were standing on the side of the highway when the truck hit three of them after losing control.


The two victims were killed on the spot, while the third person was critically injured and the fourth youth had a miraculous escape.


One of the victims has been identified as Kailash Singh (22) and the injured person who is currently admitted at a local hospital has been identified as Subhojit Singh (23).


“We are trying to contact the family members of the deceased and the injured,”said inspector-in-charge of Karandighi Police Station, Palash Mohonto.
