Ranchi, Jan 18 (IANS) Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday approved a proposal of the Jharkhand State Imprisonment Revision Council to free 139 prisoners lodged in different jails in the state.

These 139 prisoners are serving life terms in five central jails, one divisional jail and one open jail. The council reviewed the cases of such inmates who have been awarded life imprisonment considering their conduct, their age and nature of the crimes committed by them and then made its recommendations.

After the Chief Minister's approval all these inmates will be able to live with their families. Soren said bringing changes in the lives of the criminals in the interest of society should be the sole purpose of society.

The Chief Minister urged the released inmates to begin a new phase of their lives and play their role in the development of society and their families.
