GTB Hospital to have 500 Covid beds from June 2

New Delhi, May 29 (IANS) The Delhi government on Friday directed the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital here to convert 500 beds by June 2 for coronavirus treatment.

In an order issued on May 29, Padmini Singla, Secretary Health and Family Welfare Department, said the beds are being added to augment the availability of beds in designated Covid hospitals of Delhi government.

The hospital, as per the order, is being converted to "partial" and will provide free treatment.

"The Medical Superintendent of G.T.B. Hospital is directed to convert 500 beds of the hospital into a designated covid hospital by June 2," it said.

So far, two Delhi government hospitals are having Covid dedicated beds - Lok Nayak Hospital (2,000 beds) and Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital (500 beds).

Total coronavirus cases in the city have crossed 17,000 mark on Friday.
