New Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS) On World Toilet Day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts to provide the facility for each Indian household, saying it reflects a "sensitive government's commitment" towards the welfare of those neglected for years.

In a tweet, Shah said India had waited for decades to get a toilet in every household.

"On World Toilet Day, the nation thanks PM Narendra Modi for his relentless efforts towards Toilet for all. This mammoth achievement reflects a sensitive govt committed towards the welfare of those neglected for years," the Home Minister tweeted.

On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2 last year, Prime Minister Modi declared the country open defecation-free, claiming success for the government's initiative under which every household now apparently has access to a toilet.

The World Toilet Day is an official United Nations international observance day on November 19 to inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis.
