Hyderabad: Congress leader Renuka Chowdary registered a thumping victory over Quthbullapur MLA K.P. Vivekananda in the HMT Workers and Staff Union elections on Saturday. Out of 151 voters, 141 exercised their franchise. Ms Chowdary secured 79 votes.
She succeeds TRS leader Boinapally Vinod Kumar as the union president.
Mr Vivekananda secured 65 votes, losing by 14 votes to the Khammam Lok Sabha candidate from the Congress.
Ms Chowdary is the second Congress leader after former Congress MP V. Hanumantha Rao won the presidential post in HMT union elections.
