Cancer is one of the deadliest diseases. Once you have cancer, you have to constantly fight the illness. Not only the patient with this disease but also the family members need lifelong courage as well as sacrifice. Although cancer treatments are more effective with the advancement of technology in modern times, many people in our country are still dying due to lack of treatment. National Cancer Awareness Day is celebrated on November 7 every year to raise awareness about cancer in India.

The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare of India, Dr. Harshavardhan, declared November 7, September 2014 as Cancer Awareness Day. Since then our country has been celebrating National Cancer Awareness Day.

About 1.1 million new cancer cases come to light in India every year. Two-thirds of cancer cases are diagnosed when the disease is advanced. Thereby reducing the patient’s chances of survival. Therefore, various programs have been launched to increase research on cancer prevention and early detection.

How to manage Cancer Awareness Day?

Early detection of cancer can save lives. Every year, make sure to book an appointment and get tested.

National Cancer Awareness Day is the key to providing information about cancer prevention to those around you and your loved ones. Encourage everyone to search online or read the information booklet to raise awareness on how to look for early signs of cancer.

How to Prevent Cancer ?
Tobacco .. Stay away from alcohol permanently. Tell everyone to stay that way.

Plan a healthy diet that limits fruits, vegetables, whole grains as well as processed foods
Take care to avoid harsh sunlight for protection from skin cancer

The incidence of cancer in India is much lower than in developed countries. However, the mortality rate is lower due to late detection for a number of reasons. Raising awareness about this deadly disease, as well as spreading it, is important to save lives.

For every 2 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer, one woman in India dies from it. It is estimated that one woman dies of cervical cancer every 8 minutes in India. In 2018, there were 3,17,928 deaths among men and women due to tobacco use.

Oral and lung cancers account for more than 25% of cancer deaths in men. Breast and oral cancers account for 25% of all cancers in women.

According to the National Cancer Registry Program,  1 in 29 women (breast cancer), and 1 in 9 Indians develop cancer during their lifetime (0-74 years).

There is a need to prevent the lifestyle that causes ‘cancer’. The Lancet reports that tobacco use increases the risk of 14 types of cancer. Other causes include alcoholism, drug abuse, and poor diet. Unprotected sex is also a major risk factor for cervical cancer. The second most common type of cancer in women. Tobacco use and air pollution also increase the risk of lung cancer. Raising awareness about any lifestyle changes you need to make to help protect yourself and your loved ones from cancer requires letting them all know.

According to a report released by ICMR, there will be 13.9 lakh cancer cases in India by 2020 and this number is expected to increase to 15.7 lakh by 2025.

National Cancer Awareness Day is about early detection .. raising awareness about leading cancer-causing lifestyle prevention. What is known about cancer prevention is still being developed. However, experts say that a person's chances of developing cancer are affected by his lifestyle choices. The time has come for all of us to take responsibility by bringing lifestyle changes to prevent risk factors.
