Catania (Italy), Nov 27 : A charity rescue ship docked in the Sicilian port of Catania on Monday with 421 people on board including 98 children, who burst into joyful song upon their arrival, Italian officials said.
Staff members from the Doctors without Borders charity were also aboard the rescue ship operated by international charity Sos Mediterranee, according to officials.
Late on Sunday, when the ship was some 15 nautical miles from the Sicilian coast, a sick three-year-old Eritrean boy, his mother and younger brother were transferred to an Italian coastguard motor launch and the boy was taken to hospital in the northeast Sicilian port city of Messina.
